Haven

Another rad night at Haven, what else is there to say!

Get well wishes to "Tiny TYRANT's buddy who jacked his ankle! (my apologies, I don't know his name) The kid was trying to 360 the box jump and came down on his ankle hard! He rolled it so hard his ankle bone touched the ground! OUCH!!! That thing was huge and discolored in minutes!!!

Photos at usual, CLICK HERE!

"Tiny TYRANT", not so tiny toboggan!

Stick 'em up!

Thanks to Matt at Honan Sign Co. up in Winthrop, Mass. I will have new TYRANT car decals in stock for the weekend. There is a limited amount of these available, so get one like now! Look for Don, Jake, Schmidty, and myself to be rocking these on our cars very soon!

Also, hot off the press' are these rad new 3D TYRANT stickers. I'll have hundreds of these things on Sunday, grab some and stick 'em on your bike, car, etc.

Team TYRANT...kinda

Well TYRANT doesn't have a "team", but this Sunday we'll be well represented at the New England Jam Chowder contest at Haven Skatepark.

Don Pavelka, Bryan Arnwine, Jake Lineberry, and "Tiny TYRANT" Brandon Begin will be at the event killing it and repping TYRANT hard.

I'll have a few cool promotions going on Sunday so stop by and say hi!

Bag It!

Mass quantities of the TYRANT Gear Bags now in stock. Why spend a fortune on a "messenger bag" from one of those trendy companies when you can spend $12 bucks and get a rad pack from a home turf outfit like TYRANT. No bells a whistles here dudes and ladies, its a simple canvas bag with a 2 button closure, shoulder strap, and 5" x 4" inner zipper pocket. It's plain, simple, and cost effective!...enough said! Contact me if you're interested, I appreciate your support!

Tuesday

P. Krol's Playground

Arnwine and I met up with P. Krol and Dave Blachura at Krol's backyard dirt playground. Pete's backyard has seen all kinds of set-ups and several years of Krol Fest, but the new set-up is by far the sickest ever. We rode for a few hours and I shot a few photos here and there. Blachura was going off and Arnwine looked comfortable jumping...not bad for a street shredder! The night ended on a low note when Bry ejected on the 2nd set and gored his right arm pretty bad. We cleaned Bry up and I took him home to have his mother (a nurse) take a look at the carnage. Bry's mom said, "looks like somebody needs stiches", and what did Bry do?...bandage the cut up and go ride street instead. That dude ain't right! Check out the photos HERE.

The Boy Got Ups!

So Bry Arnwine has been training in a secret lair somewhere in the darkest depths of M-Town. Arnwine's routine includes endless hours of lifting to develop massive forearms and bicep strength...strength that will allow Bry to soar high and take home the gold medal in the Beijing Olympics BMX Bunnyhop. OK, that's BS, but seriously, Bry has been working on his hop and its getting bigger by the day. Tonight Bry was popping over everything in his path including a 38" rail with a 44" drop on the back side. B-B-B-BURLY! Sadly, Mother Nature was enraged and nailed us with thunder, lightning, and downpours cutting our session short. Check out the few photos of Bry I did get to shoot over at TYRANT's Flickr.

Sunday

Riding on "Go Skate Day"

So yesterday was "Go Skate Day", but I don't skate. Arnwine, T, and I headed down to Haven last night just in time to watch the "Go Skate Day" Bar B Q and session die down leaving the park virtually empty for us bikers. By 10 pm there were about 5 skaters left and only a half dozen riders...we had the park all to ourselves. For once I rode and ton and didn't do much with the camera. I was super stoked on Brian Arnwine's bunnyhop and manual madness. Bry has been riding a lot lately and his hop is higher than ever. Check out the photos over at TYRANT's FLickr.

Arnwine 35" hop to manual

I didn't realize the barrier obstacle was still off limits to bikes until we were asked to stop riding it. I was under the impression the barrier event was a 1 day deal and was over. My apologies skater dudes...won't happen again. Hopefully no hard feelings!

Thursday

Lights on at Clinton

So tonight T, Arnwine, and I met up with a bunch of people at the Clinton Park for a night time session under the lights. Great times with great friends! Tons of amazing trickery caught on film over at TYRANT's Flickr.

2 stories from tonight worth reading...

First, the cops show up at the park looking for some girl. One cop is asking everyone around the skatepark if they know this girl, was she at the park, how long ago was she here, etc. Come to find out, this girls parents reported her missing earlier in the day. If I had know I would of grabbed the girl and turned her in...and demanded a reward of course. The girl was hanging out at the skatepark for like an hour and when the cops came she booked it into the woods with some boy. Apparently folks in Clinton found this to be such an ordeal that it made it on the 11 o'clock news. Read the story HERE. Typical middle school drama! Girl lies to mom and dad and says she is hanging out with friends and she runs off to be with her boyfriend.

Story 2 is brutal, no lie! Nolan Parent is one of the Haddam BMX shredders. I've ridden with Nolan a ton of times over the past 8 years I know the kid has balls of steel...but tonight I found out he is just plain invincible!!! Nolan was attempting to pedal stall the 5 foot sub rail, but he fell outward and over the rail. To save himself from falling 8 feet, Nolan reached out to grab the chain link fence and nabbed it with both hands. Nolan was hanging from the top of the fence...but have you ever seen the top of a chain link fence? It is basically spikes. Both of Nolans hands were stabbed with two 1/2" steel fence barbs and he was hanging like a human shishkabob!

Nolan had to pull himself up and literally rip his hands free. It was the grimiest thing I have ever seen and no lie, there were skin chunks stuck in the fence. What blew my mind was that despite 4 major puncture wounds and lots of blood, Nolan got back on his bike and landed the damn trick the next try. BURLY! Dedication at its finest! Props to Nolan for having a steel set!!!

Don 180 bar spin over the spine!

CHEE On The Road Again!

So Bob German, a friend of mine and fellow CCNS Cycling Team rider, bought the General CHEE off me a few weeks ago. For those of you that don't know about the CHEE, look back to a post from October 2007. The CHEE took me 210,000 miles over the past 10 years to places all over the country and Canada and was the official TYRANT mobile for the past 5 years. I thought for sure I was going to have to lay her to rest when I got my new car last year, but after 6 month of sitting Bob invested a little TLC and $$$ and brought the CHEE back to life. She is on the road again running like a charm. 300,000 miles Bob...do it!!!

Monday

T's Getting Handy with the Camera

So T has been taking some rad shots of me with my camera lately. I rarely post photos of myself these days, but there are a few over at TYRANT's Flickr that T shot tonight at Newington.

Truth Be Told!

Albie Rock spits some great lines on a daily basis, and today's words of wisdom were amazing! Head on over to Al's blog and read the hotness!!!

Be true to yourself!

Tuesday

Practice makes perfect!

So T finally has learned how to bunny hop! Last night the concept finally sank in and next thing you know she was hopping over this paint stripe. I'm so psyched for her! Now we have to get her airing out of ramps! In due time...

T took this rad photo of me jumping over an invisible object ;)

Sunday

Good Old Newi!

Arnwine and I met Jake Lineberry and Schmidty at the Newington Skatepark today. It was a bit hot out, but we all had a good time...well maybe not Jake. After corking out a huge flair and various oter insane tricks cleanly, Jake crashed going up the big quarter pipe and went face first into the cement. We all thought for sure the kid was out cold, but after a few seconds of silence Jake got up...and called it quits for the day. Seeing he wasn't wearing a helmet, walking away with some cuts, a "swellbow", and a nice shiner wasn't bad at all. Head over to TYRANT's Flickr to check out the photos I shot.

Huge flair off a 7 foot cement quarter and no helmet.
That boy ain't right!

Saturday

Kink @ Haven

Some of the Kink team showed up to Haven Skatepark last night to ride the BMX session. Arnwine and I headed down to ride and check out the madness. Lots of people going off...what else is new. Bry looked comfy on his new bike and I was so psyched on my new ride. So long, so tall, super comfortable. It's nice to feel at home on my bike again! It was great to see Don Pavelka, Ben Church, Matty Branscombe, and a bunch of other BMX friends I don't get to see on a regular basis. Good times for sure! Aftwer leaving Haven at midnight, Bry and I drove all the way up to Hartford and rode street till almost 2 AM. Gotta love late nights on the bike! Head over to TYRANT's Flickr to check out a bunch of photos!

Thursday

Middletown in May

Lolli and I headed out to ride around M-Town tonight and let me tell you, it was like a ghost town. Eerily quiet, no crackheads at Spear Park, and no hassle from the cops. Matt was tearing it up on his fixed gear and I was getting used to my new BMX set up. Gotta' love 65 degree night time street sessions. The warm season is here! There are a handful of photos over at TYRANT's Flickr. Go check 'em out!

Lolli with a fixed tire grab

New ride, old one up for grabs!

So I built up my new ride last night, a 21" S & M LTF courtesy of Greg from Ramp Farm and Mike at Fat Trax...thanks guys. I set up the new ride very tall and long, cause I'm lanky and I was way too cooped up on my Deployer for the last year. Can't wait to ride this weekend!!!

With that said, I really need to get rid of my FBM Deployer ASAP.
Here is the low down:

FBM DEPLOYER - 20.75"

T & T Trails: A Work in Progress

So T and I worked at the house for 7 hours today on everyday yardwork and of course, the trails! Not only are we going to have 3 lines of BMX jumps, we cleared and raked a 1/2 mile of clean singletrack/cyclocross trail today...AMAZING...all on our land! By the end of the Summer our yard is going to be amazing!

Gotta' love the Wang Tree!

Short video to come in the next day or so. Check back soon!

Friday

New Rides!

So a few of us stepping it up and building up new rides. Bryan Arnwine just got his hands on a raw 20.6" Fly Campillo frame thanks to Vic at Circuit BMX. Bryan just bought the raw Fly Tierra forks last week so this bike is going to look super hot and be really light! I'll have some photos posted early next week. I'm looking at a 21.25" raw We The People Lo-Fi. Before I can grab the new frame I have to be sure that I have an even trade/ or buyer for my LE Silverback 20.75" FBM Deployer. Hit me up via rideTYRANT.com if you are interested in my frame package below.

Saturday

Dig it!

So I finally got outside to play today after being sick as a dog with a fever and harsh cold for almost a week. I woke today feeling pretty good, although I was still super stuffy. After 2 hours or yard work at T's place I dug for an hour and got the 1st jump of the trails piled up. I'm going to try and drive back to the house tomorrow morning and rake, pack, and sculpt the lip, as well as remove that stump that's right in the way of the jump. I'm psyched! despite the fact there is tons more work to be done before anything will be ridable. All in due time!

Sunday

T & T Trails

So after much anticipation, I've started working on the new trails. These aren't going to be the next Posh or Nam (if you don't know what those are do some damn research!), but they'll be fun. I'm planning out a small 10 pack, a large 6 pack, a rollers section, a dirt bank to wallride (like at Baker's Acres) and a few rad berms thrown in. The jump lines and rollers are all on a gradual downhill, so expect little to no pedaling! This is going to take a lot of time and effort, but I am cheating a little by having my cousin bring in his Kabota tractor to get dirt mounds piled up and packed so I can start sculpting out the transitions. Before any building occurs I have a lot of brush to clear and a few trees to take down. I'm determined to have everything 100% complete and dialed by late Fall. No worries about getting this place plowed or outsiders ruining stuff, the trails are on T's land and its private property. SICK!

Big 6 pack coming soon

Friday

FIT at Haven: Part 2

WOW! Last night was ridiculous! Everybody was going big, especially Mike Aitken and Brian Foster. It was a very late night/early morning...I didn't get home till 2 am, but it was totally worth it. Check out the photos over at FIT @ Haven.

FIT in Town

If you are around tonight head down to The Haven Skatepark and check out some of the FIT Bike Co. team. The guys are on an East Coast Tour and they're stopping by the park tonight to shred the 6-10pm BMX session. Should be a good old time!

Doing it for the Cause!

T recently accepted the challenge of cycling in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fund-raising event. The Tour is a series of cycling events held in 80 cities nationwide. The Tour is a ride, not a race; it features different route lengths and I have chosen to ride the 100k (62 mile) ride. I have joined thousands of others to pedal in support of the association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. I will be cycling with Team Pedal Power.

If you would like to help me and help cure diabetes please click here.

It's a damn good cause! Take some of the money you were going to spend on some bike parts, video games, new music, beer, etc. and make a small donation today!

Thank you everyone for your support!

Grand Theft Velo II

Grab your bike and get down to New Haven Saturday night for the most kick a$$ race of the year! TYRANT is one of the race sponsors as well as Death to Dopers, one of our other ventures. I'll be up in Boston this weekend for the Local Exposure Tour and some Red Sox games, so I need somebody to head down and rep TYRANT at the race. Word is that one of the prizes is a FREE knuckle tattoo from Eric Merrill, of of the nastiest tattoo artists in the country...and a fierce road cyclist! I dare somebody to win that prize and get "TYR" and "ANT" tattooed on their knucles! TYRANT!

Props to Drew for getting this whole thing organized and giving me the opportunity to be a race sponsor.

Curved Wallride Anyone?

So Arnwine, Schmidt, Lolli, and I met up at Haven tonight to ride and the session basically turned into a curved wallride extravaganza. Half of the riders at the park were lined up to take runs at the new 180 degree curved wallride. I took a bunch of photos which can be viewed by clicking here.

Monday

Man Down!

I'd like to send a sincere get well out to Peter Krol who is laid up in a New York City Hospital with a serious head injury. Pete was warming up for the Hustle & Flow contest Saturday with Team Ghostship at the High Bridge Trails in Manhatten when he went head first into the lander of a dirt jump knocking himself out cold. From what I was told Pete's helmet was cracked in 2 spots, his glasses were broken into 3 pieces, he is covered in road rash style scrapes, and suffered a serious concussion. EMT's took Pete by ambulance to the hospital where he underwent a CAT scan and MRI which revealed his brain was bleeding and swollen. This is a no joke matter and I totally feel for Pete cause my crash back in 2005 was just about identical...except Pete's lucky to have his teeth! It's always tough to hear about another rider getting severely hurt and even tougher in this case cause Pete is the funniest, nicest kid around. Get well P. Krol!

Sunday

Local Exposure Tour @ Haven

WOW! Today was of f the hook! The Local Exposure Tour stopped at Haven Skatepark and people were going off! There were riders from all over the East Coast in town for the event and everybody brought a huge bag of tricks with them.

Begin's Ramp

T and I headed over to "Tiny TYRANT's" to ride his backyard ramp today. Rumor had it Brandon and his dad made some progress on the ramp last weekend so I wanted to go check it out. Sure enough, the ramp is coming along nice...now all we need is warm weather and sun! As always it was a fun time over the Begin's. Thanks for having us...and thanks for the post-riding munchies! Brandon was killing the ramp, check out the photos: Click Here!

"Tiny TYRANT" with a not so tiny air!

Monday

Clinton Closed!

So apparently the Clinton Skatepark is CLOSED thanks to a bunch of local a$$hole kids that ripped down portions of the fence surrounding the park. I don't get it, the park is amazing, has stadium lights, ans Spring is here...but kids feel the need to trash the place for fun? Why would you risk having the park shut down? Can you say IDIOTS! Read the full article the Middletown Press published HERE.

Haven Rental

So a bunch of the staffers from Pedal Power rented out the Haven Skatepark last night. It was a pretty mellow session with only 8 people there! Todd Hettrich shot a bunch of photos which he shared with me. Head over to TYRANT's Flickr to check 'em out!

Thursday

Splat!

So tonight I crashed really hard on the road bike! My right knee is raw meat, I bent my bars an inch, my back wheel is tweaked, and my ego is bruised! Luckily it was my Lemond, not the new Duratank. I biffed it off a curb going about 30 mph and went straight over the bars to my right knee/side/head, NO FUN! Some lady parked near by bolted out of her car and the first words out of her mouth were, "I can't believe you are conscious!" Then she asked if I needed medical attention. I guess I took it hard? A quick phone call to Tina to come save my haggerd a$$ was all I needed. Anyway, crashes are a drag! I hate being sore...I hate a busted bike...but I guess that's why we all do it! To heal up, fix our bikes, and keep on riding..cause we love it! Crash and burn!

Sunday

Almost Spring!

Tina and I met up with Ben Church and "Tiny Tyrant" at the Newington Park today. It was our first outdoor park session of 2008 and our first time at Newington in almost 6 months! Everyone had a good time and the rain held off...for the most part. Spring is almost here!!! Head on over to TYRANT's Flickr to check 'em out.

Brandon Begin's lawnmower is ready for Spring!

Weekend Getaway

So T and I headed up to the Providence area for the weekend to get away from CT for a change. Saturday we stopped in Circuit BMX to say hello to Vic and check out his amazing selection on rad stuff. Be sure to get up to Circuit next weekend for the moving sale! This morning we rode Skaters Edge in Taunton, Mass. We met up with Ben Church, a Bristol, CT rider, who came up from Roger Williams where he goes to shool. It was nice to ride Edge, I haven't been there in years! Don't get me wrong, I love the Haven Skatepark, but we ride it so much its cool to check out a new place. Skaters Edge is a funky park, the trannies are so mellow!!! I felt like I didn't know how to ride ramp...Oh well, we had fun none the less. Check out some photos of some local shredders I shot at TYRANT's Flickr. My flash was dying due to lousy batteries so nothing really came out too great. Maybe next time?

Ben Church slant wallride to bar spin

Haven...holla'

WOW! Lots of shredders at the Haven Skatepark today. It blows my mind how many kids are just killing it these days! I on the other hand am not! I fell twice...HARD! I jammed my thumb really bad and smashed my left knee...resulting in me hanging up the bike and taking out the camera. Check out the few photos I shot over at TYRANT's Flickr.

Monday

Bike vs. Car

So Craig Samuels was nearly killed by a car a couple days ago out in San Fran. This is what Craig had to say after I sent him a message that said "riding your fixed gear without a helmet?":

"Correct, fixed and no helmet, my hat is ok though, haha. Here is a crude writeup on what happened: Got hit on The Wiggle (SF bike route). Guy turned in front of me, I hit his front driver side, my bike stayed there and I flew over his hood and onto the sidewalk. Luckily my face/head broke my fall. It made the most grossest crunching noise. I didn't get light headed or pass out or anything so I don't think I have a concussion. We settled it there, I got his business card and enough money for a new front wheel. He was super cool about it and very concerned. I decided to take a cab home instead of to the hospital cause I didn't want the expense. My friend Chris and I cleaned it up and as of now it looks ok."

Burly! Glad to hear Craig is alive and well! There is a TYRANT care package in the mail dude! and yeah, be sure to wear your damn helmet!

Real men wear Barbie bandaids!

Pedal Power @ Haven

Last night the Pedal Power staff, along with some friends and family, rented out the Haven Skatepark for a late night session. Everyone had a good time and of course there are a bunch of photos over at TYRANT's Photos.

Back in the Day!

So I was stranded at home today due to the snow and I decided to mill around through some old photos I had. Head over to TYRANT's Photos for a couple "blast from the past" photos of Arnwine and Brandon Begin I scrounged up. Nothing like the good old days! Wow do I miss the old MSC in Westfield, MA....so many memories of good times and good friends there!

Dondor Jam 2008

Thanks to everyone who came out to Don's birthday jam last night, it was a good old time. There was brief scare when Tiny TYRANT went down face first and busted up his head and mouth, but he was able to walk out of the park on his own 2 feet. I shot a ton of photos, head over to rideTYRANT.com to check them out.

UPDATE: "Tiny TYRANT" Brandon Begin is ok. He knocked off 3 of his braces, has some haggerd cuts in his mouth and has a few loose teeth (which his braces will hold tight till they heal). He'll be riding in no time! He's a trooper!!!

Toboggan Race Report

So the TYRANT TOBOGGAN TEAM placed 77th out of about 150 sleds at the Toboggan National Championships in Camden, Maine this past weekend. A bit disappointing, but we had fun. This was our 3rd year participating and sadly our slowest :( Next year we're getting together an all-star squad, building a new sled, and we're renting a vendor parking spot on the mountain to set up a TYRANT tent. Gotta' love the white trash winter olympics...that have nothing to do with bicycles!

NEW on 2/12: NICE! We made the newspaper in Maine, check it out HERE. Ryan registered our team so he gets all the glory :)

Thanks to Tina McCurdy for the photo, Shawn Hebrank for the skull drawing, and Matt Lolli for the tyrant text.

Tuesday

Toboggan Time!

This year will be the 3rd year the "TYRANT Toboggan Team" heads to Camden, ME for the National Toboggan Championships. We're headed up to stay with my best friend Gates and his wife for a 3 day weekend of absolute madness! Check back here next week for some hilarious photos of what some dub the "White Trash Winter Olympics".
