FIT in Town

If you are around tonight head down to The Haven Skatepark and check out some of the FIT Bike Co. team. The guys are on an East Coast Tour and they're stopping by the park tonight to shred the 6-10pm BMX session. Should be a good old time!

Doing it for the Cause!

T recently accepted the challenge of cycling in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fund-raising event. The Tour is a series of cycling events held in 80 cities nationwide. The Tour is a ride, not a race; it features different route lengths and I have chosen to ride the 100k (62 mile) ride. I have joined thousands of others to pedal in support of the association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. I will be cycling with Team Pedal Power.

If you would like to help me and help cure diabetes please click here.

It's a damn good cause! Take some of the money you were going to spend on some bike parts, video games, new music, beer, etc. and make a small donation today!

Thank you everyone for your support!

Grand Theft Velo II

Grab your bike and get down to New Haven Saturday night for the most kick a$$ race of the year! TYRANT is one of the race sponsors as well as Death to Dopers, one of our other ventures. I'll be up in Boston this weekend for the Local Exposure Tour and some Red Sox games, so I need somebody to head down and rep TYRANT at the race. Word is that one of the prizes is a FREE knuckle tattoo from Eric Merrill, of of the nastiest tattoo artists in the country...and a fierce road cyclist! I dare somebody to win that prize and get "TYR" and "ANT" tattooed on their knucles! TYRANT!

Props to Drew for getting this whole thing organized and giving me the opportunity to be a race sponsor.

Curved Wallride Anyone?

So Arnwine, Schmidt, Lolli, and I met up at Haven tonight to ride and the session basically turned into a curved wallride extravaganza. Half of the riders at the park were lined up to take runs at the new 180 degree curved wallride. I took a bunch of photos which can be viewed by clicking here.

Monday

Man Down!

I'd like to send a sincere get well out to Peter Krol who is laid up in a New York City Hospital with a serious head injury. Pete was warming up for the Hustle & Flow contest Saturday with Team Ghostship at the High Bridge Trails in Manhatten when he went head first into the lander of a dirt jump knocking himself out cold. From what I was told Pete's helmet was cracked in 2 spots, his glasses were broken into 3 pieces, he is covered in road rash style scrapes, and suffered a serious concussion. EMT's took Pete by ambulance to the hospital where he underwent a CAT scan and MRI which revealed his brain was bleeding and swollen. This is a no joke matter and I totally feel for Pete cause my crash back in 2005 was just about identical...except Pete's lucky to have his teeth! It's always tough to hear about another rider getting severely hurt and even tougher in this case cause Pete is the funniest, nicest kid around. Get well P. Krol!

Sunday

Local Exposure Tour @ Haven

WOW! Today was of f the hook! The Local Exposure Tour stopped at Haven Skatepark and people were going off! There were riders from all over the East Coast in town for the event and everybody brought a huge bag of tricks with them.

"Oh Damn"....No "Oh Damn"

Sorry all, the 2nd Annual "Oh Damn" Jam WILL NOT be going on May 11th. Stay tuned for the the reschedule date. Don't worry, it will be worth the wait...I promise!

Sunday

Begin's Ramp

T and I headed over to "Tiny TYRANT's" to ride his backyard ramp today. Rumor had it Brandon and his dad made some progress on the ramp last weekend so I wanted to go check it out. Sure enough, the ramp is coming along nice...now all we need is warm weather and sun! As always it was a fun time over the Begin's. Thanks for having us...and thanks for the post-riding munchies! Brandon was killing the ramp, check out the photos: Click Here!

Monday

Clinton Closed!

So apparently the Clinton Skatepark is CLOSED thanks to a bunch of local a$$hole kids that ripped down portions of the fence surrounding the park. I don't get it, the park is amazing, has stadium lights, ans Spring is here...but kids feel the need to trash the place for fun? Why would you risk having the park shut down? Can you say IDIOTS! Read the full article the Middletown Press published HERE.

Haven Rental

So a bunch of the staffers from Pedal Power rented out the Haven Skatepark last night. It was a pretty mellow session with only 8 people there! Todd Hettrich shot a bunch of photos which he shared with me. Head over to TYRANT's Flickr to check 'em out!

Thursday

Splat!

So tonight I crashed really hard on the road bike! My right knee is raw meat, I bent my bars an inch, my back wheel is tweaked, and my ego is bruised! Luckily it was my Lemond, not the new Duratank. I biffed it off a curb going about 30 mph and went straight over the bars to my right knee/side/head, NO FUN! Some lady parked near by bolted out of her car and the first words out of her mouth were, "I can't believe you are conscious!" Then she asked if I needed medical attention. I guess I took it hard? A quick phone call to Tina to come save my haggerd a$$ was all I needed. Anyway, crashes are a drag! I hate being sore...I hate a busted bike...but I guess that's why we all do it! To heal up, fix our bikes, and keep on riding..cause we love it! Crash and burn!

Sunday

Almost Spring!

Tina and I met up with Ben Church and "Tiny Tyrant" at the Newington Park today. It was our first outdoor park session of 2008 and our first time at Newington in almost 6 months! Everyone had a good time and the rain held off...for the most part. Spring is almost here!!! Head on over to TYRANT's Flickr to check 'em out.

Brandon Begin's lawnmower is ready for Spring!

Weekend Getaway

So T and I headed up to the Providence area for the weekend to get away from CT for a change. Saturday we stopped in Circuit BMX to say hello to Vic and check out his amazing selection on rad stuff. Be sure to get up to Circuit next weekend for the moving sale! This morning we rode Skaters Edge in Taunton, Mass. We met up with Ben Church, a Bristol, CT rider, who came up from Roger Williams where he goes to shool. It was nice to ride Edge, I haven't been there in years! Don't get me wrong, I love the Haven Skatepark, but we ride it so much its cool to check out a new place. Skaters Edge is a funky park, the trannies are so mellow!!! I felt like I didn't know how to ride ramp...Oh well, we had fun none the less. Check out some photos of some local shredders I shot at TYRANT's Flickr. My flash was dying due to lousy batteries so nothing really came out too great. Maybe next time?

Ben Church slant wallride to bar spin

Haven...holla'

WOW! Lots of shredders at the Haven Skatepark today. It blows my mind how many kids are just killing it these days! I on the other hand am not! I fell twice...HARD! I jammed my thumb really bad and smashed my left knee...resulting in me hanging up the bike and taking out the camera. Check out the few photos I shot over at TYRANT's Flickr.

Monday

Bike vs. Car

So Craig Samuels was nearly killed by a car a couple days ago out in San Fran. This is what Craig had to say after I sent him a message that said "riding your fixed gear without a helmet?":

"Correct, fixed and no helmet, my hat is ok though, haha. Here is a crude writeup on what happened: Got hit on The Wiggle (SF bike route). Guy turned in front of me, I hit his front driver side, my bike stayed there and I flew over his hood and onto the sidewalk. Luckily my face/head broke my fall. It made the most grossest crunching noise. I didn't get light headed or pass out or anything so I don't think I have a concussion. We settled it there, I got his business card and enough money for a new front wheel. He was super cool about it and very concerned. I decided to take a cab home instead of to the hospital cause I didn't want the expense. My friend Chris and I cleaned it up and as of now it looks ok."

Burly! Glad to hear Craig is alive and well! There is a TYRANT care package in the mail dude! and yeah, be sure to wear your damn helmet!

Real men wear Barbie bandaids!

Pedal Power @ Haven

Last night the Pedal Power staff, along with some friends and family, rented out the Haven Skatepark for a late night session. Everyone had a good time and of course there are a bunch of photos over at TYRANT's Photos.

Back in the Day!

So I was stranded at home today due to the snow and I decided to mill around through some old photos I had. Head over to TYRANT's Photos for a couple "blast from the past" photos of Arnwine and Brandon Begin I scrounged up. Nothing like the good old days! Wow do I miss the old MSC in Westfield, MA....so many memories of good times and good friends there!

NEW Stickers and Pints

So the new chrome mirrored Trike stickers are in and ready for the taking. Thanks to T, I also have these rad pint glasses available for $5. The glasses are branded with a cool new logo that T also designed (see the image at the top of the page).

Dondor Jam 2008

Thanks to everyone who came out to Don's birthday jam last night, it was a good old time. There was brief scare when Tiny TYRANT went down face first and busted up his head and mouth, but he was able to walk out of the park on his own 2 feet. I shot a ton of photos, head over to rideTYRANT.com to check them out.

UPDATE: "Tiny TYRANT" Brandon Begin is ok. He knocked off 3 of his braces, has some haggerd cuts in his mouth and has a few loose teeth (which his braces will hold tight till they heal). He'll be riding in no time! He's a trooper!!!

Toboggan Race Report

So the TYRANT TOBOGGAN TEAM placed 77th out of about 150 sleds at the Toboggan National Championships in Camden, Maine this past weekend. A bit disappointing, but we had fun. This was our 3rd year participating and sadly our slowest :( Next year we're getting together an all-star squad, building a new sled, and we're renting a vendor parking spot on the mountain to set up a TYRANT tent. Gotta' love the white trash winter olympics...that have nothing to do with bicycles!

NEW on 2/12: NICE! We made the newspaper in Maine, check it out HERE. Ryan registered our team so he gets all the glory :)

Thanks to Tina McCurdy for the photo, Shawn Hebrank for the skull drawing, and Matt Lolli for the tyrant text.

Tuesday

Toboggan Time!

This year will be the 3rd year the "TYRANT Toboggan Team" heads to Camden, ME for the National Toboggan Championships. We're headed up to stay with my best friend Gates and his wife for a 3 day weekend of absolute madness! Check back here next week for some hilarious photos of what some dub the "White Trash Winter Olympics".

More love for TYRANT!

I caught word from Hebrank that Pixie from L.A. Ink would be stopping by Identity Tattoo this week. I sent a bunch of shirts out to the guys at the shop back in the Fall and apparently Todd sent one of my ladies tops to Pixie, who is an old friend of his. Anyway, long story short the guys at Identity sent a few photos my way of Pixie repping TYRANT. Very cool of them to shoot some photos and even cooler that she took the time to pose for them. Nice to see our little East Coast outfit getting a little love from a West Coast gal. Thanks guys, thanks Pixie! Much appreciated!

Hebrank also put up a post on this topic, go check it out HERE.

BOO BOO!

So T crashed pretty hard jumping the spine at the Haven Park last Thursday. After 3 days of being in agony she bit the bullet and went to the doctor for some x-rays. The results are due in today, there's a possibility T may have fractured her pelvis or coccyx (tailbone)....OUCH! Let's hope all is well and she's back on the bike soon!

Monday

New Shirt!

In honor of our new web address Shawn Hebrank created this bad a$$ new shirt. I'll be screening this week and shirts should be available on the TYRANT MySpace page February 1st. Look for me at the Haven Skatepark next week, I'll have the shirts with me for sale, only $10!

*Note: Shirts will not be available in white as shown

Late Night @ Haven

Last night T and I went to the Haevn Skatepark and it was pretty nuts! Some of the guys from Staff BMX and The Hell on Wheels BMX Stunt Show came up from New Jersey and were killing the park. This one maniac was 360ing the box higher than anybody ever has...the kid was a good 12-15 feet in the air and he also flaired the big quarter at least 7 feet out! It was burly! Like usualy I was there with camrea in hand. Check out last night's photos at TYRANT's Photos

...and don't forget to spread the word, new site in the works: RIDETYRANT.com.

RIP Spear Park 2008

So the rumors are true, the City of Middletown is moving forward with tearing down Spear Park this Spring/Summer. Spear Park has become a legendary Central Connecticut riding/skating spot over the past 10 years having been sessioned by several pros and featured in a few videos. Sadly, the cities crack heads, drug dealers, drunks, and bums also like to call Spear Park home because its park benches and tables are hidden behind brick walls and trees out of sight from the law. I couldn't tell you the amount of times we've rolled up to ride Spear at night and found some wack job passed out in the bushes! I realize years of kids waxing and grinding the ledges has done damage to the park, but I assure you that is not the reason the park is being torn down! It's the shady shiat that goes on there in the wee hours of the morning! For the time being, the town has done some major pruning to make the park easier to see into from all sides when cop cruisers pass by. To our benefit, the removal of several low branches has opened up a few ledges that were overgrown. I'm making an effort to find out when "D-Day" is going to be, but you can be sure there are going to be a few heavy sessions at Spear before that place gets demolished.

Haven Holiday Bash

So the Pedal Power Crew rented out the Haven Skatepark for a Holiday Session. Some friends and family came along to shred and fun was had by all. Check out the few photos I shot over at TYRANT's Photos.

T's New Toy

So T got one of her Christmas presents a week early, a new BMX bike. She was riding an Intergral Slauson that Bill at Pedal Power gave me a smoking deal on about a year ago. The Integral was cool, but it had an American BB, regular headset, and weighed 34 lbs. That's a tank of a bike for a 125 lb. girl to handle! T's new ride is a coffee colored 20.75" Eastern Dragon complete with an Odyssey Pro Dirt Fork, MacNeil Light Bars, Primo Powerbite Cranks, Integral Cassette Wheel, and lots of green accents. Green Shadow Grips and BB, Animal Seatpost Clamp, and a sick custom built front wheel...an anodized green old school Velocity rim laced to a GT Mohawk Hub. Any other rider would destroy this front wheel, but T is light so it will hold up no problem. Rumor is there may be a ladies only session at the Haven Skatepark in the near future. Get your girlfriends riding!!!

Sunday

Haven....

Wow, what a rad weekend! T and I rode Haven Saturday night and Sunday and we're both beat! Head over to the TYRANT Photos to check out all the pics I shot. T actually took a few photos of me too...yes, I still ride bmx.

Craig Samuels Report

So Craig Samuels, long time TYRANT supporter and CT local, has been out in San Fran. at film school since the end of the Summer. Craig shoots me a trusty MySpace message now and again to let me know he's alive, but the message I got last night was rad as hell!! Check out this quick short produced by Craig...and check out the last 15 seconds of the video. Craigs getting ill on his fixed gear! SO SICK!

HAVEN again...

So Arnwine and I met the whole Pedal Power Crew at the Haven Skatepark last night for the BMX session. I think the highlight of the night was Gary Nicol, one of the owner's of Pedal Power. Gary blew off the mountain bike ride he was supposed to attend, took (bought) a DK Dayton from the shop, and came and rode the park in a road bike helmet and Dr. Martins. Great! Everybody was having fun and it was rad to watch some of the locals totally kill the place. Check out the photos I shot over at TYRANT's Flick.

"Sick Boy! Nah, nah - nah - nah, nah"

Ah, what a great old Social D song. Anyway, I've been sick boy since last Sunday. Coughing up a lung, running a fever, and feeling like a pile of crap. Cyclocross season finally got the best of me. Well, my fever broke and I feel a little better today even though my throat is still on fire. Tomorrow is the 1st of 2 races this weekend to end the 2007 New England Cyclocross season and its going to be hellish! The weather's supposed to be in the low 30's with snow showers, so I'll most likely get bronchitis next week, but I'm ending the season on the bike, not sick in bed! So with that said, I'm off to bed. Gotta be up at 5 am and on the road to Rhode Island by 6. 2 more days and the season is over...so I'll be at Haven Skatepark a few times a week from here on out. SICK!

Tuesday

Christmas Crap!

So JUNK*MART claims this is one of the "Hot Bikes this Holiday Season". Are they out of their minds? Who manufactures this crap? Somebody please go to Wal*Mart and buy me one of these for Christmas...so I can ghostride it into on coming traffic and burn it! I pity the pathetic parent that actually purchases one of these death-mobiles for their kid! Be sure to purchase the supplimental insurance policy that goes with it!

Monday

Crazy Crash!!!

So there was a crazy crash at the Haven Skatepark Saturday night. I have no idea how either of these guys walked away uninjured!!!

Haven Skatepark

So T and I went to the Haven Skatepark late last night for the BMX session. The park is pretty sick! and tons of riders were there. It was awesome to see so many people I haven't seen in ages. I shot a bunch of photos which can be viewed over at TYRANT's Photos. I have to get more comfortable shooting indoors, the lighting throws me for a loop so don't mind some of the blownout photos!

New Begin Backyard Ramp

So T and I headed over to ride the new backyard ramp of "Tiny Tyrant" Brandon Begin. The set-up is really fun, its a 6 foot quarter on one side with a 4 foot flat deck spine in the middle to a 5 foot quarter on the other side. Brandon and his buddy Aaron were already bombing around the ramp when we showed up. Brandon was going pretty big for the little guy he is! After some ramp riding we took a ride down the street to a local school and Brandon proceeded to huck himself down a 9 stair set going mach speed. It was a super fun day and it was great to ride my BMX bike...it hasn't been touched in weeks! Thanks guys!

Tiny Tyrant, tiny bike....not so tiny gap!

Friday

Hairless Hebrank!

So the day has finally come, Hebrank cut off his dreads! The dreadlocks will be polyurethane coated and sold for $10 each. These are collectors items! They are 2 feet long and great for belts, dog leashes, rope, etc. All proceeds will benefit the "Fly Tyrant to MinneCRAPolis Fund."

Thursday

SICK NEW DECALS!

So the new TYRANT mega decals are in and they look great! These are ideal for your car windshild, ramps, buses, etc. A huge thanks to Shawn Hebrank for coming through via his connection in MinneCRAPolis! Contact me if you want to purchase a decal, they are super limited!!! These things are huge, 16" x 4", cut from high quality "Blood Red Vinyl". A $15 donation is all it takes to get one of these decals. All proceeds go toward a giant bags of beef jerky from Sam's Club for Shawn.

Chromed Out!

The new chromed out TYRANT stickers are in. Head down to Pedal Power to grab some or find me in person. These stickers were intended for placement on fork legs, but you can stick 'em anywhere you want. They are super reflective and look hot!

Busy Weekend

This weekend is going to be pretty nuts! I'm racing the Chainbiter UCI cyclocross race in Farmington on Saturday and the CycleSmart International in Northhampton, Mass. on Sunday. Both races begin at 9 am and over 85 riders are pre-reg'd for each days race! It looks as though temps. are going to be in the low/mid 30's both mornings, DAMN! Come out and get rowdy!...and bring your cowbells, air horns, megaphones, etc.

Wednesday

Sold Out to Stay Loyal!

So last night was the Devils Night Alley Cat and I totally sold Drew out! I never got the bag of swag I was donating from TYRANT and DEATH 2 DOPERS down to New Haven cause I left Monday to Boston for the Red Sox Parade. Sorry dude, but I had to to sell out to be a loyal Sox fan. Alley cats are going on all the time, but the Sox winning the Series has only happened twice in the last 86 years! I had to go...may be the last time in my life I'd have the opportunity! I don't have the Boston "B" tattooed on my ankle for nothing! I hope the race went well and I still plan on giving you all the swag I promised you so you can hand it out or use it for future races.

Monday

Random Stuff

So here are few random things...

I was over my cousin Johns yesterday tooling around on his chopper bicycle that he acquired from Shawn Hebrank. Shawn and Andy fabricated this beast a few years back and its been put to good use lately. That thing is nuts! 5 foot high handlebars and a 3 foot high seat. Word on the street is that there is going to be a race between Drew from New Haven and I. Drew has a killer chopper fixed gear tall bike, at least 6 feet high. Your going down Drew! Check out the photos T shot at TYRANT's Photos.

Also, John is selling the Team TYRANT Moped, his 2006 49cc ripper that he paid $2,600 for. He is asking $1,200 which is a steal for this thing, so tell all your friends.

MSX is dead!

So I only rode the MSX Trails once this year, pretty pathetic, but nobody was up-keeping them so I don't feel guilty. T and I stopped by the trails yesterday to see how things were looking. We had hopes of raking out the place and tidying up the jumps enough to make the place ridable till the 1st snow fall. To my surprise there is a new medical building being built less than 100 yards from the trails right through the woods. Based on the property markers that were staked out the small set and berm are on the land of the medical building. With that said, I think MSX is truly going to see its death this year. I'm going to stay optimistic, but I wouldn't doubt the trails are leveled before 2008. Lots of good memories at those trails, especially from 2001-2003 in the Haggerd Trails days when I was living in Middletown.

R.I.P. MSX

Cyclocross Action

Yesterday was the State Cyclocross Championships and my 1st cross race ever. It was a really good time, despite being totally exhausted after the grueling race. The course was super fun even though the grass was really wet when the race went off at 9am. Head over to my personal photos page and check out the photos T and I shot throughout the day. Lolli was repping Ghostship hard and handing out $1 dolla' primes during the mens Elite race. It was sight watching pros sprint for dollar bills!

Tuesday

R.I.P Chee

So the General Chee, the official team vehicle of TYRANT has been laid to rest. After 10 years and 210,000 miles of hell raising my Toyota Corolla has finally reached its limit. I couldn't of asked for a more reliable car! I've been all over the USA with 1-3 bikes on the roof, ridden amazing parks, raced amazing races, and saw some great sights! Taking the place of the Chee is a 2008 Toyota Matrix. Lots more room than the Corolla, the same reliable Toyota engine, and its new! I'm awaiting R. Gates to call with the "official name" for my new ride...ha ha ha!

TYRANT invades Paris

So T went to Paris and decided TYRANT needed to rear its ugly head overseas. Take a look HERE.

TYRANT outside the Louvre in Paris.
If you don't know what the Louvre is get educated!!!

Friday

Devils Night Alley Cat 4

So TYRANT kicked in over $100 of merch. for this years Devils Night Alley Cat Race in New Haven. Get down the green by 7 on the 30th to register to race. It's going to be nuts!

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST: TYRANT is also kicking in a hoodie, gear bag, sticker pack, and 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon to the 1st person to complete the ENTIRE RACE on a BMX bike!!!

That's the challenge, whose going to man up?!?!?

Thursday

Too dark to road ride!

So the annual Pedal Power "End of the Season" Party was tonight. If you don't know, it's basically a fun event to gather good customers, eat good food, drink good drinks, and celebrate a great year of Monday night Pedal Power road rides. Hell, free food and drinks, I'm in! Thanks to Gary and Bill for running a kick a$$ shop...come on!....only Top 100 shop in CT! Plus, its our 4th year on the Top 100 Shops list. Check out the few photos I shot HERE. Hope everyone had a good time! Until next year.....

Wednesday

The Fog!

Yeah, that basically sums up the session we had at the Clinton Park tonight under the lights. It was fun for about an hour until dense fog and spotty showers rolled in. A militia of guys came out to ride including Don Pavelka and Garrett Pyskaty coming down from Warwick, Rhode Island. As usual people were going off...too bad I left my slave flash at home and was stuck using the cheesy pop-up flash on my camera. Not to mention, I can't shoot film under those stadium likes worth shiat! Anyway, check out the photos at TYRANT's Flickr, there are a few hot shots. Until next time....

Don thought this table sucked. I thinks its dialed!
