Legends Never Die

Today I woke to the crushing news that Mike Tag had passed away yesterday. I can't say I knew Mike, only met him a few times at East Coast Terminal and the Ghetto Street comps, but the guy def had an effect on my riding! In the late 90's and early 2K's Mike was thrashing everything he came across. The guy was an animal on a bike! Steve Crandall has a great post over on the FBM site: CLICK HERE. My thoughts go out to Mike's family and the FBM crew. Rest in peace, ride on!

Saturday

Squatchville

The trails tees are done and available HERE!
Grab a shirt, grab a shovel, and get your a$$ to the trails!

Friday

Dodging Showers

Rain showers were all over the state this afternoon. It would pour for 2 minutes, dry out for 30, and pour for 5 more. Nature at it's finest! Anyway, despite all the wetness we got a solid late afternoon session in.

Mauls Brawl 2012

For the 20th straight year, the folks at Mauls put on another kick a$$ contest. Dudes were going off, that's all that needs to be said! A great day, with great people, at a great event. BMX!

Thursday

Squatchville

Steve found a new trails spot and has been slinging some serious dirt. I got down there the other day to lend a hand and the place is coming along nicely. We've dubbed the spot "Squatchville", as it's in some dense pine forest, there is a ton of wildlife, and we're always hearing crazy woodland noises!

Monday

First Dirt of 2012

We rode the Deep River Skatepark for several hours yesterday, then made out way to Bongi's to check out his new dirt set-up. As usual with those Haddam kids, the line is pretty wild! Despite the place being bone dry and crumbly, a few of the guys were going at it. Looking forward to riding here when the place is packed.

Thursday

New Trails

Steve found a new trails spot....downhill, 30 yards from a brook, and most importantly no Poison Ivy! Looking forward to putting in some serious shovel time this Spring!

Sunday

Tables & 2x4 in CT

Met up with Tony Long and the T&F crew today and to our surprise Van Homan and some of the 2x4 guys came along for the day trip. We started off at the Middlefield Park and the local skaters weren't too psyched. Eff em! We rode and dudes were having fun. Mid-day we headed over to the snake run and people were stoked. That place truly is a gem! Everyone was getting rad, taking white knuckle bomber runs, and having a good time. There were a few casualties, but nothing my zip loc bag med kit couldn't patch up. We topped the day off down at the Deep River Park and Van Homan owned the place jumping the humps....then throwing a turndown over them. All of us have been eying that up for years, I was psyched to see it go down. All in all it was a fun as hell day with a bunch of great people. Thanks to the T&F guys for venturing over 2 hours once again and thanks to the 2x4 guys for making a pit stop in CT. Always good to ride our local places with new faces.

Wednesday

Deep River at Dusk

Haven't ridden in 2 weeks and haven't posted in a long time. I'm back to working a day job and I've been busy and hell! Sorry folks!

Met up with some of the Mercenary crew at the Deep River Park to get rad for an hour+ before dark. Good times for sure! Really looking forward to the time change Sunday. Bring on that daylight!!

Willi with the Mass./T&F Crew

A bunch of dudes from Mass. came down to ride the Willimantic Skatepark yesterday. I figured Tony Long had 1-2 people with him, I'd was def surprised when 3 car loads of dudes showed up. We rode Willi for 3 hours and then made our way over to Baltic for another 2. Everyone was having a good time, guys were feeding off one another and throwing some rad stuff down, and most importantly a lot of fun was had! Love BMX day trips!!

This video does it no justice! Pete Henkel hucking a huge 20 ft. gap!

Thursday

Combs & Smith at Willi

Romb Combs and Eddy Smith, 2 young RI rippers, made the trip over to ride the Willi Park today. I met the guys over there around 10 and the place was empty all morning! Those dudes were maching it around that park! Getting rad on everything. Sadly, my flash broke so the photos are straight up natural light and kinda shotty. Looking forward to getting some great pics next time around!

New Year's Facelift

I gave the site a minor face lift today. Enjoy the new look!
Ignore the big blank space on the right side as you scroll down, that will soon be filled with ads.  Call it selling out, but if I can generate a little income from the site it will allow me to ultimately bring more product to you guys!

Tuesday

Chilly Willi

Rode the Willimantic Park with some of the Fat Trax dudes again. It was pretty chilly and by the time I got there those guys had already put in 3 hours of riding. None the less, good times!

Matt Horak throwing the bars on the mega wedge. Shot by Greg Rooke or Dave Drury?

Wednesday

Truckers at Fat Trax

For all you Mass. dudes that messaged me wanting an embroidered trucker hats...Fat Trax has them in stock. Get on over to the shop and grab a cap!

Monday

Back to Willi

It's been about a month since we've ridden Willimantic, far too long! Bry and I headed over to the park today to meet up with Matt Horak and Greg Rooke. Of course, we thought the place would be dead on a Monday, but we roll up at 10am and there were 9 people already there. None the less, we got in some serious riding....5 hours worth...and I didn't snap a single photo! Tom Kalmanidis snapped the below photo cause he "loves 80's tricks". Long live the abubaca!

Sunday

Saturday Sub

Jake built a sub-box and brought it over to the Crompton Park yesterday. In typical Jake fashion, he proceeded to empty his bag of tricks on the box right away...270 to smith, fuf, icepick, etc. The highlight of the afternoon was def. some little kids that felt the need to jump the fence into the town garage yard and steal a shovel to dig trails. Any of us that have ridden the park have seen the signs claiming the area is watched on hidden camera. Well those signs are not a joke! Within 3 minutes of the youngin' jumping the fence a cop cruiser was flying into the parking lot. Damn kids!

T1 Radness!

I got word a few weeks back that a photo I shot of T&F Tony Long was gonna be featured on the Terrible One site. Tony shot me a FB message today that the article was up, pretty rad...

Sunday

Sunday Edge

Somehow I got motivated and hopped in the car at 6:30 this morning to solo it over to Skaters Edge to meet up with Tony Long and Gamache. Glad I made the trek, it was a good time and after not riding in almost a week it was much needed!

Wednesday

Lazy Jay's

We rode Jay's ramp last night....well, I was a lazy POS....everyone else rode while I shot some photos. Just wasn't feeling it. Been off the bike for a week, gotta shake the cobwebs. Blah! Steve broke in the new bike, it looks rad!

Sunday

Snowbikes!

We got a solid 6" of snow yesterday and Steve and I took the snowbikes for a rip. Due to the bitter cold temps the snow was ultra light and fluffy and wasn't packing at all. The bikes went slower than usual due to all the drag in the powder, but it was still fun. Hoping to get a few runs in today when things warm up and the snow is tacky...things gonna rip!

Thursday

High Class Truckers

The new high class trucker hats are in, embroidered! The hats are $13.00, hit me up in person or PayPal rideTYRANT@yahoo.com and I'll ship for free.

Tuesday

Crack boom!

Steve and I adventured out to the Willimantic Park yesterday despite 20 degree temperatures. We got about 20 minutes of riding in when a huge crack boom echoed across the park. Steve rode over to where I was asking if I heard the loud noise his bike made? After a quick once over we found that Steve's FIT Aitken S3 frame had blown out at the down tube gusset. Remember kids, FIT is SH1T!

Back in the Day: Misc. 2001-2004

Man did we raise hell back in the day. So many parties, road trips, and all kinds of antics. Here's a little bit of everything to round out the "Back in the Day" Series this week. I hope I drummed up some fond memories for you old school heads.

Thursday

Back in the Day: Newington

The Newington Park has been around since 2001 and I'm pretty sure we've ridden that place damn near a thousand times! It's a sad excuse for a park, but we always go back for more. Lots of memories there!

Wednesday

Back in the Day: Groton

Countless times we've woken up at the a$$ crack of dawn to get down to Groton and ride before the skate Nazi's show up. These photos are a fond memory of a 6am session back in the Summer of 2003...

Tuesday

Back in the Day: Jay's Ramp

Back in the Day Series

Going along with the whole reunion theme from this passed weekend I've decided to dig out some old photos from the early 2000 era. I'll be posting a different set each day this week. All you old school dudes...and new school kiddies that weren't even riding back then...enjoy!

Sunday

A Belated Happy Holidays!

Sorry for the lack of updates, Happy Holidays message, etc. I got hit with a nasty case of food poisoning on Christmas...of all days! Brutal is the only way I can explain it! Needless to say, I have been laid up since Monday, finally took down some real food again today and getting some strength back. Hoping to be back on the bike by the weekend.

Hope everyone had a nice Holiday! Have a happy, healthy New Year! I'm psyched for 2012, July will be the 10 Year Anniversary of TYRANT...damn time has flown by! I have a lot of things planned, hoping to make the majority of them a reality. Thanks for all the support this year, especially all of you who have made the online store a success ordering shirts and hoodies. Onward to 2012!

Saturday

Finally Riding Willi!

After months of waiting we finally got some riding in at Willimantic....thought it didn't come without some work! Bry and I hit up the park Thursday morning and it was pretty wet. We swept the place for a solid hour until it was rideable. We got a pretty solid session in before the place got too crowded and we hit the road. Thursday night it rained like hell, but Friday morning Steve and I went back with a broom and leaf blower to conquer the water. We spent an hour and a half or so drying the place out before getting on the bikes. Friday ended up being a great session. We had the place to ourselves for 2 hours before 5 others showed up. It stayed that dead until we were beat and took off around 2. The park is really good, all kinds of lines. This is def the new "go to" park!

Tuesday

Slowin' Down

Sadly, the riding has begun to slow down due to the cold. Sorry for the lack of updates. Hit up our FACEBOOK PAGE for day to day updates, photos, and other random BS. Winter arrives Thursday at 12:30am, ouch!

Sunday

Guilford: 12/17/11

No photos, just a lot of riding. We had a crew of 5 guys getting rad at Guilford. Good times for sure!

Wednesday

Back to the Streets

With Haven gone, no other local indoor parks, and it dark by 4:40 we're heading back to the streets. Gotta get some riding in before the snow comes. Steve, Mike B., and I put in a few hours of pedaling last night since Tuesday night Jay's Ramp was cancelled. We had a good time hitting up all the usual M-Town spots and 35º wasn't all that bad to ride in. I had planned to put a grind box and kicker for wall rides in the P1ss Tunnel, but the town is still locking it up. Lame!

Tuesday

Willimantic Bust!

I was out the door into 28 degree temps to go ride the new Willimantic Skatepark bright and early Tuesday. I arrived at the park around 9 and there were dirt piles everywhere along with a backhoe and some dump trucks. I thought nothing of the guys working and went to grab my bike. No sooner than my tires touched the ground I get hollered at by one of the dump truck operators. I made my way over to hear him out and wasn't psyched to hear, "Parks closed until Spring. Can't ride here." Awesome! So I dragged myself out of bed and braved the frost to get shut out...what a drag! Fortunately, the Fat Trax guys I was supposed to meet up with still had motivation and upon calling them they said we should make our way to the Dayville Park. It ended up being a fun, brisk session after all. Once the sun was high in the sky the 30 degree temps weren't that bad. Hello Winter!

Wednesday

Jay's Ramp: 12/6

Another Tuesday at Jay's ramp. I rode a bunch last night, this is all I have to show for the session...

Monday

Jingle Jam

We had big plans to get rad at the Southwick Trails yesterday, but Jack Frost almost iced us over! When our 9 man crew arrived at the trails at 11:30am the place was frosted and sloppy. Thanks to some grunt work and a quick run to Ocean State Job Lot for brooms, the place was running in an hour or so. It ended up being a great day, 26 riders showed up and gave it hell one last time before the Winter sets in. Good times everyone, thanks for making it out and thanks to the young locals for dealing with us once again over running the place.

Saturday

Guilford in December

We had a late day session at Guilford yesterday, the first time I've ever ridden that park in December in the 8 years it's been open! Usually we're dealing with bitter cold temps and crap weather by now!! Anyway, met some new peeps, pulled some old tricks on the new bike, and had a great time. Love it while it lasts, the snow is coming!

Dudes, Bikes, and Pizza!

Looking Back...

I was digging through an old bin of stickers today and randomly found this kick a$$ photo of Steve from a solid 8-10 years ago at CT's. Awesome!

Sunday

Southwick: 11/27/11

We had a crew head up to Southwick today and it was a pretty epic session!...despite Matt Lucas' bike throwing, flash smashing antics! There are a bunch of teenage locals digging their faces off tuning up the currents lines and building new one. Kinda an odd time of year to be putting in so much work, but hell....the place looks and rides great! Sounds like we'll be headed back up there again next weekend.

Friday

MA/RI Road Tripping

Steve and I had the day off today so we decided to adventure West to Mass. and Rhode Island. Our first stop was Dick Maul's Bike Shop in Halifax, MA. Talk about legendary! Maul's is a household name in the BMX world and have been keeping it real for damn near forever....30+ years!!! We hit up the Hingham Skatepark mid-day and it was windy!...but that didn't stop Steve from laying out some tables in the 7' end of the bowl. The park is small, but the bowl alone is worth the drive to the park. So nice!! On our way back toward CT we hit up Circuit BMX. Again, another amazing BMX shop...which is swiftly becoming a household name in the BMX scene. Vic is running a rad operation over there in Pawtucket! We ended the day at the Owen Bell Park in Killingly dodging random spurts of rain. All in all we drove 250+ miles and only rode 2-2.5 hours max, but it was well worth it. Good times for sure!

Tuesday

Jay's After the Storm

After a week of no power due to Winter Storm Alfred, we made our way back to Jay's tonight. New local, Mike Brennan, hopped in with Steve and I to head out to the ramp. It was a typical laid back Tuesday night session...dudes, bikes, pizzas, and the ramp. I'm hoping these sessions keep up throughout the Winter! Always a good times at Jays!!

MY FOOT...YOUR MOUTH!

I typically avoid ranting and I usually keep my cool...but this one hit the right nerve. Congrats to you, whether you are a kid or adult...you pissed me off!

This is an anonymous comment I received on my "Boston Bound" post an hour ago...

"another shitty article about shitty riders doing shitty tricks. same shit, different day. this website sucks and none of you our ever getting sponsored"

Let me break it down for you pal...

1. Leaving an anonymous comment just screams out "I'm a huge pu$$y!"

2. It's a blog...not a newspaper. It's called a post, not an article!

3. Love the repetition of the word sh1t! Your vocabulary is obviously SH1Tty, you couldn't come up with better adjectives to dis me?!?

4. I can care less what you think of me, TYRANT, and/or our friends. I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it to the grave...we ride bikes cause it is fun, not to show boat...impress anyone...qualify for the X-GAYmes...or any other BS!

5. "Sh1tty tricks"? Sorry you don't see any triple tail whips, quadruple barspins or whatever lame a$$, box jump monkey, foam pit junkie garbage tweens are throwing down these days. Don't get me wrong, the evolution of the sport is mind blowing...but it's not for me...and not what TYRANT is about. (see #4 above!)

6. "our ever getting sponsored"? It's ARE...not OUR!! You're really showing us how incompetent you are!!! Secondly, I'm 31 years old...damn right I'm never getting sponsored! I ride cause it keeps me young at heart, allows me to socialize/meet amazing new friends, and once again...wait for it...it's FUN! Kids nowadays need to take off their blinders and realize there is more to BMX than getting some free grips and a hand job from a company owner!

7. Plain and simple, you don't like the site...don't ever come back!

Rant over!
If you'd like to talk shit in person please feel free to come and chat anytime. I'd love to hear you out and see if your balls are as big in person!

Boston Bound

I was heading up to Boston to pick up T from Logan at 8:45pm so I figured I'd make a day out of it. I got in touch with Tabler & Fabler Tony Long and he offered me up the opportunity to cruise Boston street with he and his friend Chip. After meeting the guys around 1 we hit up Harvard for some banks and wallrides. Sean Burns and some of the Bone Deth crew were already at the spot getting rad. It's always cool riding with new peeps at foreign spots...especially after seeing that new Burns Osiris edit filmed around Boston (and Providence). Tony, Chip and I made our way to a pool after Harvard and Tony was blasting tables in the 12ft end. I'm not gonna lie, I sat there and watched with my tail between my legs. I wasn't about to session that place without my helmet! I'd scramble my brain for sure!! I parted ways with the guys around 3 and made my way over to the Winthrop Skatepark for a solid hour session. All in all an awesome day in Boston. Really looking forward to getting back up here soon!

This dude!

Thursday

Hump Day Sesh

Steve randomly had the day off from work so we hit up the Norwich and Baltic Skateparks. Of course, we were psyched to ride Norwich cause there would be no kids around...and 1/2 hour after we got there the school across the street got released on a half day. Sh1t luck at it's finest! To avoid the mob of tweens we made our way to the Baltic Park. Steve was getting rad with the place all to himself and our little buddy (who's name I still don't know) who seeks us out at Baltic was around. The little dude is all of 3 feet tall and he was shredding on my 22" Deuce Deuce with Perfect 10 bars...too funny! We hooked him up with some stickers and a TYRANT beanie and he was psyched. Awesome day for sure!!
