Thursday Adventure: June 7th
This afternoon/evening was quite the freakin' adventure! Steve and I met up at Squatchville around 5 to get some riding in. Steve dumpster dove some awesome tarping material from the job site he's currently working at...and it couldn't of come at a better time! After 45 minutes of riding the sky turned pitch black and we heard rumblings of thunder in the distance. We scrambled to tarp the whole place off and made it out to the cars just as the rain began.
I stalked the in coming storm on my phone and saw on the radar that East Haddam looked to be dry, so we hustled out to the skatepark site to check on the progress while the storm passed. The park is looking so good, they added 2 grind boxes, a boob, and a bunch of small trannies and wedges are rebarred out and ready for crete. By then it was pushing 7pm, the rain had passed over the trails area, so Steve and I headed back over to see if the place was still rideable. On the way to the trails a bitchin' rainbow appeared, always a great sight!
We arrived back at the trails to find the place about 80% dry...thank you dense foliage and new tarps! We pulled the tarps on the High Life line and rode till it was too dark, sometime after 8. Super fun day for sure, can't wait for the next one.

Afternoon Adventure
After 2/3's of the day raining and being lazy dozing on and off on the couch, I motivated and headed out to the trails around 4:30. I arrived at the usual parking spot and on my way in I found Steve beside the brook looking perplexed. Yeah, the brook we usually tip toe over on rocks was a full on raging set of rapids...like a solid 2-3' overflowing it's banks. We adventured through the woods looking for some boulders to jump across on, but nothing. The end result was Steve being brave and walking across a moss covered fallen tree 6' over the water in his slick Vans and me taking off my shoes and socks and wading across a thigh deep area that was slightly less gnarly.
It was no surprise that there were puddles the size of kiddie pools at the trails when we arrived. It rained like hell and the whole place showed very harsh signs of it. Lots of pitting, lots of erosion, lots of tuning up to be done! I decided since I was already wet and muddy from the water crossing I'd spend the rest of the afternoon working Huck Finn style...barefoot. We dug for a solid 3 hours cleaning up the lip and lander in the High Life Line adding some height to each. We also tuned up the first berm and added a new roller after it in the Pump & Bump Line. The sun finally cracked and when it did it was eerie in the trails. There was a bunch of fog, it was humid as hell, and creepily quiet in there. All in all it was a good dig session and we got a lot done.
We rounded out the day heading over to Salmon River to clean off and take a dip. Once again, the place was moving really quick due to all the rain. It was cold and it took some effort not to let the current sweep us away, but it was refreshing after all the digging. Loving Summer already, and it's not even here!

June Squatch
Steve and I headed over to Squatchville tonight to give the new step-down a go. We were hoping the lander packed in well so that we could get some runs in prior to the weekend rain out. Sure enough, the line was running great. The last few months of hard work is paying off, super fun session tonight. I was psyched that Steve grabbed a few shots of me, proof I do ride :P Loving having local trails!

Random Wayside Jam
I got a call from Schmidt today giving me a heads up that a bunch of riders were hitting up the Wayside Trails this afternoon. It was the rush to get in some riding before the storm...seeing we're due to get hosed with rain this weekend. So I bit, and headed over to the trails, and sure enough a dozen plus dudes showed to get rad. A super random Thursday night jam session at the trails. Summer status to the max. BMX!

Squatchville Running Nice!
Tonight was the first legit session over at the trails. We had 4 of us riding and the 3 lines were running pretty nicely...even if the High Life line only has 1 jump and a landing-less drop as of right now. Really looking forward to the months ahead...Squatchville!

A.M. Dirt
Steve and I both randomly had today off so we headed out to Squatchville for a little morning dirt. It was humid as hell, and pretty dry and crumbly, but we got some runs in on the roller line. Steve took the maiden voyage over #2 in the green line, a pretty gnarly 16 footer that kicks to the right. It took a few attempts, but he was landing it clean in no time. We decided to do a little digging on a berm that's under construction, but Mother Nature had other ideas and absolutely dumped on us. Nothing like sprinting 400 yards through the woods in monsoon rain pushing a bicycle with $3,000 of camera equipment on your back. Soaked to the bone by the time I reached the car! None the less, good times!!

Portland Needs a Park
For those of you that don't know, TYRANT is based out of Portland, Connecticut. For almost 8 years now the town has been without a skatepark, and the previous 2 parks they did have were epic failures. I'll give the town credit, they were one of the first to put in a pre-fab cement park back in the late 90's, but man was it horrible! Several years after that park was torn down due to construction at the school where it was located, a new wooden park was built on a local tennis court. This park had some potential, but the town felt the need to make it supervised, charge admission, and ban BMX...yet another epic fail! I'm not sure what resulted in the end of that park, but I'm sure their strict guidelines and the park attendant getting caught selling dope to kids didn't help.
So here we are, 2012, and the town just got a $230,000 grant which they intend to "satisfy the communities need for athletic fields". That's some BS if I ever heard it! This town has dozens of fields, some are even lit for night use! It's time to raise awareness that we don't need more tennis courts, more baseball fields, more soccer fields, and another playground in town! We're not asking for all the money, but put some toward a skatepark!

Cinco de Sunset
Steve and I headed up to Sunset Ranch yesterday to ride some bikes and meet up with some old friends. Chris has that place pretty dialed, it's mind blowing how much it has grown in 2 years. The riding conditions were perfect, it wasn't too hot, and everybody was getting rad. BMXicans!

Trails & Track
We were all over the state today. Steve and I met up with some guys at the Willimantic Park at 9:30am for a little early morning 'crete action. We made our way from the park to Schmidt's trails with Ethan Roy in tow. Schmidt's is odd, it just never feels right to me...but some of the guys were making it through the line. We hung out there for a few solid hours before making our way to Falcon BMX in Meriden. The track was rebuilt a few weeks ago and looks pretty fun, but the heavy rains early last week rutted the place up already. We took some runs and called it a night pretty early with everyone beat.

Legends Never Die
Today I woke to the crushing news that Mike Tag had passed away yesterday. I can't say I knew Mike, only met him a few times at East Coast Terminal and the Ghetto Street comps, but the guy def had an effect on my riding! In the late 90's and early 2K's Mike was thrashing everything he came across. The guy was an animal on a bike! Steve Crandall has a great post over on the FBM site: CLICK HERE. My thoughts go out to Mike's family and the FBM crew. Rest in peace, ride on!

Squatchville
Steve found a new trails spot and has been slinging some serious dirt. I got down there the other day to lend a hand and the place is coming along nicely. We've dubbed the spot "Squatchville", as it's in some dense pine forest, there is a ton of wildlife, and we're always hearing crazy woodland noises!
Monday
First Dirt of 2012
We rode the Deep River Skatepark for several hours yesterday, then made out way to Bongi's to check out his new dirt set-up. As usual with those Haddam kids, the line is pretty wild! Despite the place being bone dry and crumbly, a few of the guys were going at it. Looking forward to riding here when the place is packed.

Tables & 2x4 in CT
Met up with Tony Long and the T&F crew today and to our surprise Van Homan and some of the 2x4 guys came along for the day trip. We started off at the Middlefield Park and the local skaters weren't too psyched. Eff em! We rode and dudes were having fun. Mid-day we headed over to the snake run and people were stoked. That place truly is a gem! Everyone was getting rad, taking white knuckle bomber runs, and having a good time. There were a few casualties, but nothing my zip loc bag med kit couldn't patch up. We topped the day off down at the Deep River Park and Van Homan owned the place jumping the humps....then throwing a turndown over them. All of us have been eying that up for years, I was psyched to see it go down. All in all it was a fun as hell day with a bunch of great people. Thanks to the T&F guys for venturing over 2 hours once again and thanks to the 2x4 guys for making a pit stop in CT. Always good to ride our local places with new faces.

A bunch of dudes from Mass. came down to ride the Willimantic Skatepark yesterday. I figured Tony Long had 1-2 people with him, I'd was def surprised when 3 car loads of dudes showed up. We rode Willi for 3 hours and then made our way over to Baltic for another 2. Everyone was having a good time, guys were feeding off one another and throwing some rad stuff down, and most importantly a lot of fun was had! Love BMX day trips!!

Back to Willi
It's been about a month since we've ridden Willimantic, far too long! Bry and I headed over to the park today to meet up with Matt Horak and Greg Rooke. Of course, we thought the place would be dead on a Monday, but we roll up at 10am and there were 9 people already there. None the less, we got in some serious riding....5 hours worth...and I didn't snap a single photo! Tom Kalmanidis snapped the below photo cause he "loves 80's tricks". Long live the abubaca!
Sunday
Saturday Sub
Jake built a sub-box and brought it over to the Crompton Park yesterday. In typical Jake fashion, he proceeded to empty his bag of tricks on the box right away...270 to smith, fuf, icepick, etc. The highlight of the afternoon was def. some little kids that felt the need to jump the fence into the town garage yard and steal a shovel to dig trails. Any of us that have ridden the park have seen the signs claiming the area is watched on hidden camera. Well those signs are not a joke! Within 3 minutes of the youngin' jumping the fence a cop cruiser was flying into the parking lot. Damn kids!

Snowbikes!
We got a solid 6" of snow yesterday and Steve and I took the snowbikes for a rip. Due to the bitter cold temps the snow was ultra light and fluffy and wasn't packing at all. The bikes went slower than usual due to all the drag in the powder, but it was still fun. Hoping to get a few runs in today when things warm up and the snow is tacky...things gonna rip!

Crack boom!
Steve and I adventured out to the Willimantic Park yesterday despite 20 degree temperatures. We got about 20 minutes of riding in when a huge crack boom echoed across the park. Steve rode over to where I was asking if I heard the loud noise his bike made? After a quick once over we found that Steve's FIT Aitken S3 frame had blown out at the down tube gusset. Remember kids, FIT is SH1T!
